With a history dating back to the early 15th century in the Pyrenees Mountains of France, the Great Pyrenees is regarded as a guardian of people, and originally bred to protect shepherds and their flocks as they navigated steep ranges. Also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, the Great Pyrenees is stunning in appearance and grand in size. This breed is also a strong, loyal defender, and a symbol of elegance. The well-mannered ancient mountain dog was deemed the Royal Dog of France by King Louis XIV in 1675.The nocturnal nature of the Great Pyrenees made the breed an excellent guard dog against nighttime predators.

Grand in size with deep affection and unbinding loyalty to its owner and property, the Great Pyrenees is a popular breed for family companionship. The Great Pyrenees is a natural-born guardian and is an instinctively kind and gentle breed for family members both big and small.Though not overly active, the majestic member of the working group enjoys outdoor adventures such as walking and jogging and is more than willing to proudly display its affection for its family.
