As the tallest of all dog breeds, the Irish Wolfhound is a sight sure to be noticed! Dating back to the 5th century, the ancient Irish Wolfhound is a prominent piece of history and is featured in some of Ireland’s oldest pieces of literature. The largest of the sighthounds, the intelligent and mighty Irish Wolfhound was originally bred as a hunting dog. The Irish Wolfhound excelled in hunting large prey, including deer, wolves, and wild boars. Elegant, yet massive, the Irish Wolfhound can reach a height of more than 7 feet tall; however, this gentle giant is far cuddlier than its imposing appearance suggests.

Today, the Irish Wolfhound is a popular choice for family companionship and is a fierce competitor in a variety of events, including tracking, obedience, and lure coursing.
