The Border Collie is beloved by many as an impressive species of herding dog. Originating along the Border country between England and Scotland, they were raised for their obedient sense of how to wrangle sheep and for their ability to work long days on rugged terrain. Shepherds, farmers, and dog lovers alike agree that Border Collies are one of the most intelligent breeds on earth. Their ability to move sheep over incredibly long distances is an impressive feat. The Borderlands of Scotland and England have no natural predators for the sheep, but the hilly terrain is incredibly difficult to maneuver the sheep over while keeping them together. As early as the 1700s, UK Shepherds began competitions to display their prized Border Collie’s abilities, a tradition that made its way across the pond to competitions all over America, most notably the Meeker National in Colorado.
The Border Collie is known for two unique herding techniques, the Crouch and the Eye. The skill of eye contact takes particular finesse. An excellent herding dog knows the right amount of Eye gains control over the sheep without threatening it or making the sheep afraid. The Border Collie is extremely intelligent and a natural-born athlete, with great speed and stamina. It’s also highly trainable, allowing the Border Collie dog to excel not just at herding sheep, but also at performing amazing tricks, particularly with a Frisbee!
Schultzs story from his owner, November 2011
Ammardan's Schultz Windsor: born 1/3/08
Schultz is our first Border Collie. I had wanted one for years but opted to go with other breeds after seeing how wild some Border Collies were. Being disappointed in how my other dogs ran agility, my husband, Mark & I decided to get a Border Collie & decided on Ammardan Kennels in Garrettsville, Ohio when we read about the puppies being raised in their home, well socialized, and from true working lines. We could not be happier with Schultz's temperament! He is sweet and loving. He doesn't know a stranger, human, canine, or any other species. In fact, he loves our rabbit, Calvin, and our gerbils very much. Schultz is named after Christian singer/songwriter Mark Schultz, who has signed several of Schultz's photos for us.
Schultz is one of the fastest running Border Collies in action in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area. Mark & Schultz are still a young team and learning together but when they run people stop to watch & when they qualify, it is quite the sight! At this time Schultz is two legs away from his Masters FAST title in AKC, has MACH points and USDAA legs. We want to thank Virgil Sweeden of Paw Prints Life for capturing a great photo of Schultz that inspired "Fly Like A Border Collie" and Danielle Nichols for breeding Zach and Ruby to give us our wonderful boy!

Sizzle's Story from her owner, November 2011
Sizzle born: 4/18/06
Sizzle is a 5 year old Border Collie from Rising Sun Farm in Stacy, Minnesota. I was attracted to this litter because it came from strong herding lines and I liked the sleek looks of both parents. Sizzle picked me from the start and I couldn't ask for a better teammate.
She has accomplished many agility titles to include MACH; ADCH Bronze and Lifetime achievement award Bronze. She is also the 2011 Canine Performance Events National Champion High in Trial. This year at the Cynosport World Games Sizzle and her team "Get er Done" with Daisy Peel and Jester and Stacy Peardot Goudy with Wally earned the BRONZE MEDAL in Dog Agility Master Team Championship overall!
Besides agility Sizzle has earned her Tracking Dog title TD; and Rally Novice Title RN; as well as titles in herding of Herding Started A course Sheep and Herding Started B course Sheep; HSAS; HSBS. Our herding journey has just begun!
Sizzle is my heart and soul and I am honored to have her as the representative for the Sizzling BC Jewelry piece!
